Lake
Orava is our favourite place
for fishing. Every year at the end of September is the right time for carp
fishing, because in this time carps are concentrated in the deep parts of former
river basin. In
the last week of September 2000
we planned to spend our time with Orava's carps. But when we had been
there two days before our departure, situation was not good. A lot of local’s anglers - nothing for fishing. In
spite of the fact, that they had
promised us their cooperation, our
feeling wasn't good. In
the morning we woke up close to our place. There were almost 15 people on 50
meters of bank. One of local’s sits a bit to the side, so we started
to fish close to him. We have been catching
several carps for four days, two smaller were prepared for us and our
friends from Magic Hunters CT for a dinner, but others were released back
to the water. Carp from Orava is really tasteful, it is big difference between
these carps and carps from some small ponds. Unfortunately, the local
anglers kill all carps, and they wanted to buy our carps or exchanged them
for pork meat. Catch and release isn't in Orava very popular. Seeing
that we could catch a bigger
carp only just in the night, we decided to fish after 9 p.m. (in Slovakia
you have to stop fishing
in September before this time). And we proved the
truth of our supposition , because our biggest carp was caught after the local’s departure. But after three nights we
were really tired and therefore we decided to stop fishing earlier
and went to bed. Unfortunately, two members of a fishing patrol and four
policemen checked our place and our plans went wrong. Is clear that we broke
rules, but it's easier to fine anglers who fish after time as butchers who
kill every day a lot of fish
and a bank around them is full of blood and fish scales. Worse
is angler who breaks stupid
directiven as pseudo-angler who kills
every day s more than two
carps. We think, that a lot of members of fishing patrol are more
interested ing in their comfort
as effective controlling of fishermen. Of
course we don't want to insult those
checkers who do their job
correctly. But it is necessary to think about protection of Orava lake, because a lot of carps and other fish are sold in
the pubs and restaurants around
the Orava lake. So
we gained a lot experience, paid penalties, met some new friends (but unfortunately some foes, too) and we
are going to come back to
catch Orava’s carps this year.
